Easter Egg Facts
The UK’s first chocolate egg was produced in 1873 by Fry’s of Bristol. Approximately 80 million chocolate eggs are sold annually in the UK. The tallest chocolate Easter egg was made in Italy in 2011, standing at 10.39 meters tall and weighing 7.2 tonnes.
Easter chocolate sales make up an estimated 10% of Britain’s annual spending on chocolate. The name Easter owes its origin to eostre or eastre, an anglo-saxon goddess of light and the dawn.
